Market News on Grain Products

PARIS. The US corn market continued to decline, and Argentina's price demands also went into reverse. However, prices increased slightly in the EU and the Black Sea region. This is caused by the rise in the UAH, increasing drought in southeastern Europe and restricted trade from the Black Sea region due to the Orthodox Christmas holidays.

FRANKFURT. The wheat markets remained firm even after the turn of the year 2020. In the USA, speculation about higher wheat purchases by China in 2020 is driving the market. In the EU, lower expectations for the coming EU wheat harvest, stronger EU demand for feed wheat and poor growth conditions for Ukrainian wheat due to drought are driving up prices.

PARIS. Although the US corn market was supported by the Phase 1 agreement, imports from China still have to follow. Argentina's new government is demanding even higher tariffs on wheat, corn and soybeans. This did not raise export prices, but caused them to collapse in Argentina and Brazil, which was also linked to the Phase 1 agreement.

FRANKFURT. The wheat market continued its downward trend. Wheat prices declined in the USA and France. Only the Black Sea Region continued a somewhat firmer trend, driven by the sharp rise in the UAH.

PARIS. The corn market slightly continued its downward trend after the WASDE report showed an increase of 5 million metric tonnes in corn stocks. USDA did not lower its forecast for US corn exports either, despite the sharp decline. In western Europe, corn tends to become weaker after the prices in Brake/Germany declined further.

FRANKFURT. The wheat prices are still weak in the USA. In France and the Black Sea Region, wheat prices declined at the physical market. Meanwhile, EU wheat exports increased by 63% compared to last year.

PARIS. The corn market declined slightly in the USA and continued its stronger trend in western Europe and the Black Sea Region.

FRANKFURT. The wheat market declined in the USA, tended slightly weaker in France, but again showed strong growth in Germany. Algeria and Egypt launched new wheat tenders yesterday.

PARIS. The corn market had a firm start into the new week. In the USA, corn increased due to good export development and snowy weather in the Corn Belt. In France, the sluggish corn harvest could hardly stabilise the market, although Brussels revised the EU corn harvest slightly downwards. The strikes planned in France' transport sector, starting on 5 December, could lead to market disruptions.

MOSCOW. In 2017/18 Russia witnessed the lowest production volumes of flour and bran since 2009/10. The millers experienced an outraging fall in prices for flour. China is increasing imports of Russian flour. Exports to Turkey of bran continue to set records.

In FAO estimates for 2017/18 China remains a leader in wheat production (not counting the EU). The United States and Canada expect in 2017/18 lower yields, in contrast to Russia, which has ambition to produce the record for the country nearly 84 million MT
