Corn: US tariffs put South America under pressure

PARIS. The corn market declined slightly in the USA and continued its stronger trend in western Europe and the Black Sea Region.

In the USA, corn prices had reached a level of  371.50 cents per bushel this morning. The South Korean government had previously signalled the intention to import more than 1 million metric tonnes of corn due to the fear of an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF). On Monday, the Trump government announced that it would impose new punitive tariffs on steel and aluminium on Argentina and Brazil with immediate effect.
