Demand is on the rise in Europe

The European grind statistics provide an important indicator on the development of demand and stakeholders have been eagerly anticipating the figures. Futures have been gaining momentum since the end of June and the grind statistics released in Europe should provide an additional lift. Another region with great potential is Asia, where Q1 grindings rose by 7.2% to 177,450 mt. Contrary to this, the grindings in North America declined by 1.1% to 118,778 mt. It should, however, be noted that North America generates the highest turnover. The Q2 grind statistics for Asia and North America will be released in the next few days.

AMSTERDAM/FRANKFURT. The grinding statistics from Europe and North America fall short of expectations. Last year’s prolonged summer weather has put off consumers from eating chocolate in Germany and concerns have been voiced over the mid-crop in the Côte d’Ivoire. Traders are, however, skeptical towards these and similar statements.
