Cocoa: Grinds rise in Germany

BONN. The Association of the German Confectionery Industry records a nominal increase of in cocoa grinds for Q3.

 

Drastic increase in Germany

Germany has processed 106,146.8 mt of cocoa beans in Q3, a rise of 2.4% over last year’s Q3 grinds. The data stems from 12 different processors. Germany has so far processed 300,146 mt of cocoa beans this years, an impressive 6.1% more than last year. The Q3 rise in Germany is, however, slightly below the European average. According to the European Cocoa Association Q3 grinds have risen by 2.7% to 363,122 mt and this year’s grinds have so far risen by 5,1% to 1,077,663 mt.

AMSTERDAM/FRANKFURT. The grinding statistics from Europe and North America fall short of expectations. Last year’s prolonged summer weather has put off consumers from eating chocolate in Germany and concerns have been voiced over the mid-crop in the Côte d’Ivoire. Traders are, however, skeptical towards these and similar statements.

WASHINGTON DC/ SINGAPORE. North American Cocoa grindings dropped significantly in the second quarter. Judging by the recently announced cocoa grindings for the third quarter it, however, seems that demand has recovered.
