Cocoa: Mixed impulses from Asia

SINGAPORE. The long wait is over. The Cocoa Association of Asia (CAA) has finally published the fourth quarter grind data.

 

Asia strengthens market position

According to the CAA an absolute record has been achieved in Q4 since 196,476 mt have been ground – more than ever before in one quarter. Grinds increased by more then 11% in 2017 whereby Asia underlines its position as a vastly growing market. The figures in Q4 were achieved despite problems in Indonesia, where processors rely on imports for production.

BONN. As the Association of German Confectionery Industry has recently reported cocoa bean grindings in Germany have risen nominally in the first quarter. Figures are also encouraging in Europe, North America and Asia.

WASHINGTON DC/ SINGAPORE. North American Cocoa grindings dropped significantly in the second quarter. Judging by the recently announced cocoa grindings for the third quarter it, however, seems that demand has recovered.
