Cocoa: Demand is on the rise in Europe

BRUSSELS/AMSTERDAM. The Q3 grind statistics announced by the European Cocoa Association (ECA) may hint that growth has slowed, but market players remain positive. In addition, the data presented by the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) in the September report bespeaks of a better start to the new season than previously anticipated.

 

Early new crop arrivals

While the ICCO had previously reported that arrivals in the ports had gone down in the Côte D’Ivoire thereby indicating that there may be issues with the new crop, the organization now states that as much as 1.938 million mt of cocoa beans had been delivered to the ports prior to the beginning of the new season on 1 October – only 2% less than in the same period last year.
