Spice market update: areas under cultivation to be reduced

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

Cumin prices have been firm this week, a situation which traders say will not change until the final report on the forthcoming sowing is officially announced. At present, market players expect the acreage to be reduced by 20-22%. Farmers are currently showing little interest, as the mandis still have plenty of last year's stocks available. Prices are only supported by increased demand. Grade A cumin is currently at USD 2,020/mt and therefore unchanged from the previous week.
