Butter prices set to increase

FRANKFURT. Solid demand should drive up the butter prices in the near term. Suppliers in Poland have already raised their prices.

 

50–80 cent/kg more expensive?

Asparagus and sauce Hollandaise are like peas in a pod, and copious amounts of butter are needed for a tasty Hollandaise. This drives up butter demand during the asparagus season. Cream-based lifestyle products such as protein powder are also in high demand. The cream which is used for these products is then, however, missing for the butter industry.

Market participants are expecting butter prices to rise by 0.50–0.80 EUR/kg in the near term. At the Kempten Exchange, butter is currently trading for 5.7
