Butter: Christmas shoppers drive demand

KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Christmas has driven up demand for butter in Germany. Average quotations have surged by an incredible 44% in the EU. Exports have hit a record.

Christmas boost in Germany

Christmas shoppers have hit the supermarkets and table butter is in high demand as the Southern German Butter and Cheese Exchange reports. Retailers are having trouble ordering additional volumes. Quotations range firm for table butter at EUR 8.50-8.80/kg (USD 8.92-9.24/kg) in Kempten. As demand always declines in January retailers will have to opt for sales campaigns.
