Butter: Price development comes as a shock to buyers

FRANKFURT. The price development in Germany has taken the entire market by surprise and comes as a shock to buyers. As estimates can no longer be trusted it seems that the whole market has changed.

 

Prices drop below 5.00 EUR/kg

Due to the summer drought and the ensuing lack of animal feed it was expected that not only the milk prices but also that the better prices would eventually rise. Instead, however, the exact opposite happened with market prices declining continuously throughout September and October. The delivery net prices for 10 kg bulk butter have now dropped to as low as 4.90 EUR/kg. A similar development can be observed for 35 kg bulks, which is currently trading from 4.90 EUR/kg EXW.
