Butter: Improved prospects in the EU

FRANKFURT. The March negotiations have set a new price level for packet butter in Germany. Market players are, however, observing the developments in the market for bulk butter with some exasperation. And yet, optimistic sentiments are afloat in Europe.

Price declines, despite buying interest

Last week, Germany witnessed a decline in the prices of packet butter with 250 g packets still trading as low as 4.06-4.4.16 EUR/kg. The decline was driven by the new negotiations with the retail market, which took place in March. The volumes purchased here are reported to be on a normal level for the time of year.

Matters are, however, much nor complicated for bulk butter. Although good demand is being reported, only few deals are being struck. Problem is that there are ample stocks available. Market players in German
