MALATYA. This season's expectations regarding the exports of dried apricots from Turkey to Russia cannot be fully met. This could change in 2017/18.

A slippery endeavour
Thanks to the good production in 2016, there are still plenty of remaining stocks of dried apricots on the Turkish market, and in order to reduce stocks as much as possible before the new season, traders have reduced their prices once more this week, resulting in a new all-time low.

Market players expect surpluses from the previous crop and estimate that the production in 2017 will reach the same level as last year (80,000-90,000 mt). However, current prices do not offer much room for further decreases.

Russia is making itself scarce
At the moment, exports are mainly running through long-term contracts, there are still very few prompt requests. Foreign demand is an important factor not only for the next few weeks, but also for the new season. Russian importers in particular have been cautious this season, reducing imports by 30% compared to the same period last year.
