Bulgur: Turkey to profit from India’s export ban on rice

ISTANBUL. India’s ban on non-basmati rice exports, which became effective on 20 July 2023, has not only driven up global rice prices but has also turned bulgur into a highly attractive alternative. Grains and oilseeds: deal to be extended

BRUSSELS. While traders were initially convinced that the Black Sea Grain deal would be extended beyond 18 May, their patience was put to a hard test as negotiations continued in Istanbul this week. Now Russian news agency TASS has reported that the deal will be extended by 60 days. Uncertainties prevail for wheat, Spain’s drought will boost demand for corn and China is giving soybean suppliers a hard time. Prospects for the new rapeseed crop are, however, highly encouraging in the EU.

Grains and oilseeds: slowdown in exports

BRUSSELS. Ukraine is a matter of conflict for the EU’s agritrade in grains and oilseeds and the possible suspension of the Black Sea Grain Deal has made things worse for now. Demand for Ukrainian corn is also low as Russian inspectors are delaying shipments. While China is buying more canola in Canada, soy presents a challenge.

Grains and oilseeds: heavy blow to shipments

KIYV/BRUSSELS. Russia has intensified its missile attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure with a barrage of rockets being fired at several parts of the country on Friday morning. Loading of grains and oilseeds is also slow to pick up in the port of Odessa after recent attacks as power cuts are frequent, truck freight costs are up and trucks are lacking. Yet, Ukraine has managed to export 19.7 million mt of grains in 2022/2023 so far, which however is 31.5% down on the 28.7 million mt exported in the same period last year. Russia may, by contrast, be able to increase exports to 25.5 million mt.
