Walnuts: Traders in Eastern Europe fight for customers

SACRAMENTO/BUDAPEST. Exporters in California experienced a disappointing start to the current season. Prospects, however, brightened in January.

 

217,300 mt have been shipped

The US has exported more than 170,000 mt of walnuts since the start of the season, an increase of 5% over the same period last year. Domestic consumption amounts to 47,000 mt. Reports state that the suppliers are well booked and strong sales figures are also expected for February.
