Walnuts: traders demand surcharges for the new crop

SACRAMENTO. Some US walnut varieties will be offered with a noticeable surcharge at the beginning of the season. Demand for these products is high, while at the same the crop volume expected to decline.

Export volume 20% higher than last year

Walnut exports this season are well above last year's results and the latest monthly exports also show an increase. Since the start of the season, a total of 367,071 mt of shelled and unshelled walnuts have been shipped domestically and internationally, which is an increase of 21% compared to 2019/2020. Of this, 280,386 mt (+27%) were exported, while domestic demand grew by 5% to 86,685 mt. June figures are also impressive, with domestic deliveries experiencing a 12% increase to 8,330 mt.
