Walnuts: Shipments fall short of expectations

SACRAMENTO/KIEV. Walnut exports in California will have to make good progress over the next few weeks if they intend to meet the expectations of the market.

 

Exports down by 18%

California Walnuts estimates that 98,099 mt have been exported from the USA since the beginning of the season, 13% less than last year at this time. Market players had, however, initially expected a much better result and had even predicted a rise in exports for Europe. Instead, exports have declined by 18%, not least due to declining deliveries to Germany. The country imported around 6,574 mt of US walnuts in the first three months of 2018/19, approximately 46% less than in the same period last year.
