Walnuts: Good production results, despite harvest delays

SACRAMENTO/FRANKFURT. Harvest delays have reduced the supplies of US walnuts. Although October proved rather disappointing in terms of exports, market players are highly optimistic for November.

 

Strong November expected

Despite this year’s harvest delays, a whopping 541,833 mt of in shells were registered by the end of October – an increase of 5% over last year. Production estimates for 2018/19 range at 620,000 mt. Market players, however, report that there will be 10-15% fewer Chandler walnuts than expected in California. In terms of quality there is, however, nothing to complain about so far.
