SACRAMENTO. Exports of US walnuts are slowly recovering, but are still 19% below last year's level due to the production slump in 2017.

Nearly 220,000 mt exported
In May, the export and consumption figures for US walnuts stabilised somewhat. A total of 288,580 mt have been delivered to Germany and other countries since the start of the season, a decline of 16% compared with last year. While deliveries to the domestic market shrank by only 3% to 69,002 mt, export volumes fell by 19% to 219,578 mt in the first nine months of 2017/18.

European buyers imported approx. 14% fewer US walnuts in shell, but imports of walnut kernels increased by almost 6% during the same period. Meanwhil
