GUJARAT. Arrivals are expected to increase over the next few weeks in the spice market in India. The black pepper traders are, however, still feeling the impact of cheap imports from other origins such as Sri Lanka and a virus has reduced the availability of prremium chilli.

Cumin

The first new crop arrivals are pressurising the market with prices for cumin, grade A, 99% dropping to 3,130 USD/mt FOB. Arrivals are expected to start to increase in February and to gain pace in March when the seeds had enough time to dry and the moisture content no longer poses a risk for longer storage and transportation times.

Coriander

The revival in demand coupled with a smaller crop and low supplies have given prices a lift. As little as 259,117 ha have been sown in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
