India's spice exports up 35 pc in Q1
Kochi: India's spice exports increased 35 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017-18 compared to the same quarter last year. During the review period, spices of US$695.99 million of rupees were exported from the country. This information was given by the Spices Board.
According to the Spices Board, total spice exports during April to June 2017 were 306990 tonnes. However, in the first quarter of the financial year 2016-17, the export was 22,798 tonnes. The highest contribution of this export was 133,000 tonnes of red chilli, which is US$185.73 million in terms of price. The most sought after in Indian spices is red chillies.
According to the board, export of seafood was 92 per cent and 49 per cent increase in price and export of 13250 tonnes. Small cardamom exports were 1220 tonnes, which cost US$20.85 million. This export was 1106 tonnes and US414.08 million in the same period of last financial year.
Karnataka goes out in the production of black pepper
Mumbai: Karnataka has now surpassed Kerala in the production of black pepper in the country. In the year 2016-17 Karnataka has produced 25,Mt of pepper. This information was given by the Indian Spices Board.
According to the Spices Board, Kerala has produced 24000 tonnes in Tamilnadu and 2000 tonnes of pepper in Kerala in the year 2016-17. Due to drought last year in Kerala, the production of black pepper has decreased. Tell that last year the Kerala government had declared all the districts of the state as drought-prone. In the year 2016-17, the total production of pepper in the country was 55000 tonnes, which was 14 percent more than the previous year
Decrease in Cardamom Production
On the other hand, the production of small cardamom decreased by 18 per cent in the year 2016-17 to 19625 tonnes. The share of Kerala in this production was 17215 tonnes, which was 21500 tonnes in the year 2015-16. The production of small cardamom was 1435 tonnes in Karnataka, which was 1440 tonnes in 2015-16, while in Tamil Nadu the production increased by 3 percent to 975 tonnes.
Production of large cardamom increased by 6% to 2016 to 5623 tonnes in 2016-17. The area of big cardamom also increased by 1.5 percent to 26,787 hectares. The Spices Board has not yet released production figures for other spices
