Cardamom
New arrivals are finally starting to pressurise prices this week. The harvest delays had made market players rather nervous with pests being a serious threat for the old crop. They are nevertheless anything but relieved since the lack of rain is causing great concerns. The prices for cardamom, 8 mm have dropped from 23,570 USD/mt to 23,270 USD/mt FOB.
Black pepper
Hoping to at least attract a few buyers the farmers have considerably dropped their prices. Subdued trading activities are posing an enormous problem for them. The prices for black pepper, 500 GL have declined from 10,650 USD/mt to 10,550 USD/mt FOB.
Cumin
The market for cumin is currently closed causing the prices for cumin, Grade A 99% to decline to 2,760 USD/mt FOB. Market players, however, expect trading activities to resume again next week.
Coriander
The market is closed and prices have remained firm. Market players report that traders and farmers have made enormous loses by buying coriander at high levels not expecting prices to drop so low. Many farmers are refusing to sell thereby hoping to cut loses.
Turmeric
Weak monsoon rains have delayed sowing in Tamil Nadu. Some regions will even been hit by drought. Sowing is only completed by 10-20% in Erode, although 50-60% are normal for this time of year. The prices for turmeric, double polished remained on a relatively stable level of 1,080-1,085 USD/mt FOB.
Chilli
Sowing has started in Andhra Pradesh. Due to the large carry over stocks and the low prices many farmers are expected to switch to other products such as cotton or corn. The prices Chilli, S4, stemless remained firm at 1,280 USD/mt FOB.
