Spice market update: waiting for the new crop

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin seeds

As sowing has risen by 36-40% over last year the production prospects are highly encouraging. Production is currently estimated at 500,000 metric tonnes. Export demand is rather subdued and prices have declined. Grade A cumin is trading at USD 2,180 per metric tonne FOB.

Coriander seeds

Low domestic demand and encouraging production prospects have put a cap on prices. Good sowing should especially boost in Gujarat and in Madhya Pradesh. Carry-over stocks are, however, expected to decline by half over last year. The new cr
