Spice market update: turmeric defies skyrocketing freight rates

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, turmeric and chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin seeds

Cumin is stagnant with negligible chances of correction. Prices have, however, come down a bit this week. Although the market has recovered from the dip seen in April, the picture will remain unchanged. One reason is that the arrivals from the farmers’ end are still minimal. They only empty their storages at regular intervals when they have to. Although they require cash for sowing next season’s crop, they prefer to wait for similar price hikes to emerge as last year.
