Spice market update: shipments on hold due to China rains

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin seeds

Although cumin is trading lower again this week, the situation may change overnight. Reason is that heavy rains have been suffered in southern China forcing over 100,000 people to evacuate to safe places. Severe damages have been reported in the cities of Guangdong, Guangzhou and Jiangmen. Chances are that the area sown will be greatly reduced. Yet, it should be noted that the general picture is far from clear. Only certainty is that a bumper crop is highly improbable.
