Spice market update: the pressure is on for cardamom

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

As arrivals have picked up in the local mandis A grade cumin with a 99% purity is trading nearly USD 70/mt lower this week at USD 2,125/mt FOB India. Demand is rather subdued at present. Isssue is that many buyers are not prepared to accept the current prices and rather prefer to wait for prices to decline. Growers, by contrast, point out that the current prices are too low. Abundant rain in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan is also weighing on the market. Sowing will start in October. Traders, however, reckon that farmers may switch to more attractive altern
