Spice market update: pepper crop might be lower than expected

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

Cumin prices have experienced ups and downs over the past few days and have now settled at USD 2,925/mt FOB India, which is USD 25/mt less than last week. However, traders are in a dilemma: on the one hand, commodity prices have increased by almost 75% in the last ten months, and on the other hand, buyers are not willing to pay significantly higher prices. Indian market players cite the decline in production as the reason for these massive increases; while the crop in the 2020/21 season is estimated at 184,000 mt, the forecasts for 2021/22 are only 103,000 mt,
