Spice market update: high prices deter buyers

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin seeds

New crop arrivals, short supplies of good quality seeds and the anticipated rise in production have pushed down the prices for cumin. The moisture in the new crop is very high. Production may rise by 25% this year and arrivals are increasing rapidly. The market, nevertheless, received some support as export demand is on the rise in the Gulf countries, which are gearing up for Ramadan in April.

Coriander seeds

Coriander is trading lower this week since production is expected to rise by 21% in 2019/2020. The rise in demand
