Saffron: Exports decline in Iran

TEHRAN. Since the traders in Iran refused to sell their products in a bid the push up prices, there has been a noted decline in exports.

EU cuts back imports

Annual prodcution normally ranges at 200 to 300 metric tonnes in Iran. The main export destinations are Spain and the United Arab Emirates. The devaluation of the Iranian rial over the last two years has rendered exports more attractive for buyers and sellers alike. In a bid to push up prices the traders in Iran have, however, refused to sell their saffron, which caused exports to decline. In addition, the larger stocks started to add pressure to the market.

Last year, the EU imported 59 metric tonnes of saffron from Iran worth EUR
