TEHRAN. The re-imposition of the US sanctions on Iran in August last year have had a drastic impact on the market. Exports have declined by as much as 33% since last year. At the same time, the producers are gearing up for the international market.

US sanctions have drastic impact

Iran shipped as little as 77 metric tonnes overseas between the end of March and the end of August. This is a 33% decline over last year. Problem is that the US sanctions have caused considerable financial difficulties. At the same time production is on the rise. While market players estimate last year’s production at 382 metric tonnes, this year’s production is expected to rise by more than 17% to 450-500 metric tonnes. Subdued demand and the political tensions have pushed down the prices.
