BAYANNAOER. The prospects for the new crops are far from encouraging.

Smaller acreage

Because of the low prices for sunflower and pumpkin seeds in 2016, many farmers have lost money. Some cannot even sell their goods. Therefore, farmers emotion is not high about planting sunflower and pumpkin seeds. For sunflowers acreage has slightly dropped in 2017. Acreage in Inner Mongolia a reduction of 5% - 10% is expected, in xinjiang region a reduction of 50%, in the northeast and gansu province a reduction of 20%.

Price increase is inevitable

As acreage is shrinking and supplies dwindle, the sunflower seeds prices are expected to rise in the future. However, considering the negative market and the slow consumer demand, the overall price rise of sunflower seeds will be limited.
