DALIAN. The prospect of a significantly lower pumpkin seed production in 2017 has prompted several buyers to conclude contracts as a preventative measure.

Most contracts run until the end of October, some even until the end of the year. The hope is to secure relatively low prices, at least for this season. The trend continues to rise; a limit is not yet in sight.

Lots of room for price hikes

After the announcement was made two weeks ago that sales indicate that acreage could be 40-50% smaller than in last year, Chinese suppliers saw their chance to start raising the prices for the first time in a long while. Within a very short period of time, the prices for Shine Skin rose by 7.22%, and for GWS even by 11.54%. Nonetheless, the offers are still 800 USD/mt below last year's level.
