Pistachios: Spain steps up production

SACRAMENTO/MADRID. US shipments have been anything but encouraging this season so far. Shipments to China and to Europe ar considered problematic. Acreage has, meanwhile, risen by 50% in Spain.

Sharp decline in US exports

Since 2019/20 is an off-year in terms of production in the US the INC initially estimated US in-shell production at 329,000 metric tonnes. More recently the Admimistrative Committee for Pistachios has confirmed that US crop receipts have declined to 339,547 metric tonnes in the recently issued Pistachios Inventory and Shipment Report for January.  Overseseas shipments are down 25% on last year at 93,375 metric tonnes this season so far.
