Pistachios: production weighs on market

TEHRAN. The conditions for production were ideal in Iran this season. Official pistachio production estimates range at 300,000 metric tonnes. In the Khorasan Razavi Province, production of dried pistachios even doubled to 82,000 metric tonnes.

As much is 65,000 metric tonnes of in shells were harvested in the province, thereby accounting for 21% of national production. After spring frosts put a considerable dent on production in 2018/2019, favourable weather conditions, pest controls and the conversion of infertile garden into fertile gardens prompted a recovery this season.
