Turkey intends to promote exports

Export supplies vary greatly in Turkey every year as high domestic demand tends to limit supplies for the export market and production differs greatly in size. While production ranged at around 220,000 metric tonnes in 2018, the figure dropped to 70,000 metric tonnes in 2019. Turkey shipped 1,028 metric tonnes of shelled and unshelled pistachios and 1,148 metric tonnes of processed pistachios (roasted, salted, etc.) overseas last year. This is a decline of 63% and 40% respectively since 2018. The main export destinations include Italy, Germany and Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Portugal and Israel. Exports to China are to be promoted. To this end acreage and production need to be increased and quality standards need to be improved.
