Pistachios: Exporters in Iran call for improvements

TEHRAN. Although Iran has the largest acreage in the world, production varies greatly every year depending on the weather conditions. The competition between Iran and the US is fierce.

High acreage in Iran

At 479,000 hectares acreage in Iran accounts for more than 50% of the global area under cultivation. Pistachios are globally cultivated on 770,000 hectares. The Kerman Province is the main cultivation region in the country, followed by the Khorasan Razavi Province and the Fars Province. Since the performance is better in the latter two provinces development has been accelerated here. However, only 377,000 hectares cultivated in Iran are fertile.
