Pecans: Production set to rise by 10% in 2018/19

ATLANTA. This season, the farmgate prices for US pecans have dropped for the first time in five years. Countries such as the Netherlands and Germany have imported record volumes.

 

Export volume at a record level
Between October 2017 and March 2018, the US exported a total of 11,600 mt of pecan kernels. This is an increase of only 1.5% over same time last year; however, it still means a 20% increase over the same period 2015/16. Market players are expecting export increases of 10% for the entire year.

Shipments to Canada and the UK, two of the three largest importers of US pecan kernels, dropped by 18% and 10% respectively over the first six months of the current season. Contrary to this, importers such as the Netherlands
