Pecans: Demand leaves much to be desired

The current production estimates of the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) indicates that major producing countires urgently need to diversify their sales markets. There is a risk of global oversupply. EU import data confirm this statement.

The current price situation
While the prices for kernels remain stable, the prices for halves are firmer. This is due to demand from China and concerns that supplies may become limited towards the end of the season. Pieces can, however, be obtained without difficulty. In Eastern Europe, US pecans are trading in a range of 13,225 EUR/mt EXW Poland.

China may become a problem
According to the May estimates of the INC, a nominal decline in global production of 0.5% to 292,500 mt is expected for this year. The reason is the smaller crop in Mex
