NEW DELHI. Despite of a smaller production, the prices for peanuts are lower than last year in India. Due to the early start of the monsoon sowing may commence earlier in many regions.

Global decline in production

Global demand has been rather subdued in the first quarter. In spite of delivery delays and other difficulties in the producing countries supplies are still abundant in the European spot markets. The Chinese and US 2016 crops are for instance still on offer.

Experts reckon with smaller yields this year, which is why the 2018/19 global production is projected to drop by almost as much as 10% to 38.75 million mt as compared to last season.
