Peanuts: Decline in global production

WASHINGTON, D.C./BUENOS AIRES. In the US, the harvest is progressing slower than last year. In Argentina, heavy rains have delayed sowing.

 

Sowing is underway in Argentina

The 2018 production estimates for Argentina range at 790,000-1,000,000 mt. Despite the initial drought, good yields were achieved in growing regions such as San Luis, La Pampa and Buenos Aires. Nevertheless, production falls well short of expectations. Rainfall at the beginning of May also delayed the harvest and due to the high humidity, the plants showed higher aflatoxin levels more frequently.
