OTTAWA/MOSCOW. Compared to the April report, the Canadian statistical office has made substantial corrections to the forecast for the 2019/20 mustard seeds season.

14% lower crop
Until now, the official assumption was that the Canadian mustard seed farmers would sow a similar area in the coming season as for the 2018/19 season.

When the time came, the low prices of the current season had an impact afterall and farmers reduced their total acreage by 17% compared to the previous year. Despite the expectation of a somewhat better yield per hectare, production in 2019 is expected to reach only 150,000 mt from an area of 169,000 ha, 13.8% less than in 2018. 78% and 21% of the mustard fields respectively are located in Saskatch
