Zagatala/Azerbaijan. The common reaction of Turkish farmers is - "Harvesting period is almost finished and we already drying fresh crop, but TMO still didn't announced the purchasing price for the new crop". Meantime Turkish national currency leaves a lot to be desired. As experts mentioned in several articles, it is very important to index price to USD rate (as it is in Azerbaijan), and optimum price for in shell hazelnuts has to be not less than 3 USD.

Moreover, before Natural disaster (damage calculations not yet announced) in Blacksea region, unofficial source confirmed crop estimates around 550k tons against 640k tons which was announced in INC. At the moment TMO (Turkish Grain Board) stock is around 77k tons but as we have been informed, quality is not good- otherwise all stock had to be sold out till today if consider very weak national currency last 3 months.

Our calculations:
Turkey - 550k new + 77k old crop = 627k tons in total
Italy - 120 k
Azerbaijan and Georgia - 100k (bug troubles in Georgia unfortunately still actual)
 Other countries - 50k

Totally 897k tons against 1,014 m consumption according to INC.

So, that means we will have deficit around 100k tons in season 2018-2019. Even if start price will not so high at start, price increase  expecting from October.

Since the main harvest in Azerbaijan starting in September, exporters actively offering current crop and starts to sign agreements for new crop. To remind you, fresh kernels are not suitable for roasting and blanching since blanching coefficient is very low in compare to current crop.

 Currently Azerbaijan offering following:

13/15 mm Natural Hazelnut Kernels  5,70 $/kg   6,05 $/kg
