ORDU. The market in Turkey has witnessed a drastic shift in prices. Supplies apparently fall well short of expectations, especially in Ordu. Market players are mystified by developments.

Supply squeeze takes market by surprise

The stronger Turkish lira and unfavourable weather conditions on the eastern Black Sea coast have also contributed to the rise in prices. Unusually warm temperatures are also fuelling uncertainty about the outlook for this year's production. Market players, in addition, report of an unexpected supply squeeze. Of the estimated 220,000 metric tonnes of hazelnuts harvested in the Ordu region, only 100,000 metric tonnes have been registered so far. At present, it is unclear if the producers are holding back or if the crop is small
