ORDU. Many market participants are becoming increasingly concerned over the blooming period for Turkish hazelnuts. The problem is that the warm temperatures are reducing the regeneration time of the plants.

Crop damages are possible

It is being reported that the first buds are already forming on the hazel bushes, as it is not cold enough to induce them to hibernate. The bushes are instead preparing themselves for pollination. This is critical in that significant crop losses are possible, should temperature drop considerably again. However, if the hazelnut shrubs have sufficient time to recover by spring, then the market could still be spared the worst. It is still difficult to obtain reliable crop estimates at the time being.
