ORDU/SALEM. More than 145,000 metric tonnes of hazelnuts were registed with the TMO last week. The state organisation intends to buy a total of 200,000 metric tonnes.

Possible supply squeeze

Although production was good, market players are nevertheless reckoning with a possible supply squeeze. In addition to the 200,000 metric tonnes the TMO intends to purchase domestic consumption is also etsimated at 200,000 metric tonnes. Exports are furthermore expected to range at 500,000 metric tonnes in 2019/2020. Since production ranges at 800,000 metric tonnes and there virtually are no carry over stocks, the TMO will most certainly have to dispose of its stocks again in the second half of the season to prevent a supply squeeze
