Hazelnuts: exasperating manipulation month

ORDU. Luckily it emerged that the TMO turned a deaf ear on calls to issue an irrationally high price of TRY 100/kg for hazelnuts after president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the bids himself on Monday. Yet, some rumours are still circulating, and Ferrero is giving rise to concerns.

Rumours galore

With the harvest about to start rumours and manipulations have been piling up in Turkey in recent weeks. Reports over rain-caused damages and statements demanding that the TMO should issue a bid over TRY 100/kg had the clear intention of driving up prices. This phenomenon is, however, normal and exporters label the weeks before the harvest starts manipulation month.
