Hazelnuts: Counts were satisfactory

ORDU. The current counts of the fruit set confirmed the positive forecasts for the Turkish hazelnut crop in 2019. However, a large crop also makes early intervention by the TMO more likely.

Possible losses not taken into account
Last week, the fruit set was counted again in the Turkish hazelnut regions. The result gives reason to hope for a good crop, as the forecasts are actually expected to exceed previous expectations. However, market participants point out that losses due to insect damage and empty shells have not yet been taken into account in this calculation. The 2019 hazelnut crop is expected to range from 650,000 mt to 800,000 mt hazelnuts in shell.
