With the so-called "We have had enough demonstrations", farmers are making it clear that the upcoming changes and ever tougher regulations have them worrying about the future of their farms.
The applicant for the demonstrations is Georg Janßen, Federal Managing Director of AbL. His view of things is clear: "Many farmers are also ready for more climate protection, environmentally friendly agriculture and species-appropriate animal welfare. But they cannot shoulder the challenges alone; it is a task for society as a whole. That is why it is important that on 18 January 2020 we, together with thousands of fellow citizens and civil society activists, once again call for fundamental changes in agricultural policy." For this reason he hopes that many farmers will take part in the demonstration on 18 January and by coming to Berlin with their tractors.
Demanding support
Prince Felix zu Löwenstein, chairman of the organic umbrella organisation "Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft (BÖLW)", underlines these statements: "A continuation of this threatens the foundations of our life such as biodiversity, water, climate or soil fertility. We farmers are the first to be affected by environmental damage. Because we need clean water, bees and stable weather conditions so that we can harvest enough today and in the future. Agriculture must therefore face up to the problems. But the farmers rightly demand that society and politics do not leave them alone to solve the problem and that the poiliticians talk to them."
