Cumin: notable shift in prices

TEHRAN. Although cumin is very much suited for cultivation in Iran the country has extensive problems in marketing the spice. Last season, the market, nevertheless witnessed a hike in production and in exports. Since the start of the harvest season in July the prices got green cumin have notably shifted in the market.

Production rises by 30%

Iran is the second largest producer in the global market. In 2018/2019 production climbed by more than 30% to 12,435 metric tonnes. This was mainly driven by 15% increase in acreage to 20,7325 hectares. The export value also climbed by 50% to USD 6 million. Despite the increases in production and turnover, the recession has forced many companies to close over the last few years.
