Cumin: incredible twist in exports

SABZEVAR. Production stands and falls with the rain for green cumin. Judging by the amounts harvested this year conditions were not quite ideal in Sabzevar County in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province. Exports also took an unbelievable turn in August.

Sabzevar is famous for producing high-quality green cumin and accounts for around 95% of Iran’s exports with destinations comprising Asia, Europa and America. Exports witnessed a surprising twist in August as they surged nearly 16-fold on July. While Iran exported 17,174 kg of green cumin worth USD 34,348 in July, this figure rose to 273,785 kg worth USD 546,195 in August. Issue is the arrival of the new crop coupled with a sharp rise in demand.
