Cumin: exports at stake

FERDOWS. Although farmers report that the green cumin harvest is making good progress in Ferdows County in Iran’s South Khorasan Province, it is far from certain if sufficient supplies will be available for export.

Harvesting underway

The farmers in Ferdows are presently harvesting green cumin on 500 ha. Reports on harvesting may be good but the crop did simply not receive enough rain in spring meaning that production will range slightly lower than last year. On top of this, rain fell short of expectations in winter and the area sown did not rise to 3,000 ha as initially projected.
